Spawning striper are starting their return to the lake!
We have started to see some bigger post spawn striper being caught, and over the next couple weeks we will see those numbers increase. Striper fishing has still been a little up and down as the weather has been pretty indecisive about what it wants to do. Fishing live bait in 20-40ft of water on flats and ledges has been producing lots of fish, as well as swim baits and slabs in 15-25ft of water.
Crappie have been consistent on structure in 10-20ft of water and under boat docks and floating structures.
Jigs and live minnows have both been producing good numbers. It can’t hurt to have both on hand as some days one or the other has been caught them better.
Catfish have been on flats and around coves and creek channels, 15-25 of water with cut shad and punch bait being the baits of choice.
With spring rains and fresh water flow the mouth of the rivers and around the mouths of creeks can be places to find good catfish.
Smallmouth and Largemouth bass have still been following a pretty consistent pattern as the shad spawn has still been happening off and on over the last couple of weeks.
Shallow on rocky banks earlier in the morning with top waters and crank baits then moving a little deeper as the morning progresses with crank baits and soft plastics.
